What is Flaring?
The connection between Aquatechnik’s Multi-calor pipes and Safety-plus fittings is unique in that it doesn’t rely on pressing or tightening. Instead, it uses a conical joint system achieved by flaring.

Flaring is the process of widening the ends of pipes to create a shaped seat that allows a secure connection with a fitting or another pipe.
The design of the fitting and the flared pipe work together to compress the O-rings precisely, ensuring a leak-proof seal. The cap then locks everything in place for a strong mechanical hold, suitable for both concealed and exposed installations.
The widened-bore system connected by flaring offers several key advantages:
- Quick installation: Each joint takes just a few seconds
- Improved flow: Wide-bore design means better flow and energy savings
- Less friction and noise
- Lower costs: Compared to the use of tees and reductions, thanks to special F/F fittings.
Better still, all fittings are demountable and reusable!
Just one tool needed!
Exclusively available from MEP Hire, the patented Aquatechnik Flaring Tool is used to easily expand the bore of the pipe so it can accept the fitting, which is then secured into place using a safety cap and locking wrench. This safe, simple, fast jointing method requires no pipe deburring or calibration before fitting. The process is safe, fast, and doesn’t require prior countersinking or calibration.
A complete flaring tutorial video can be viewed in the demonstration video below.
Flaring Step-by-Step
ALWAYS follow the full instructions provided with the tool, but here is a summary:
- Assemble the expansion kit according to the pipe diameter to be processed
- Cut the pipe precisely at the predetermined point
- Insert the cap into the pipe
- Insert the pipe onto the flaring machine head
- Start the machine until the flaring is complete (the pipe will be automatically released)
- Insert the fitting into the flared end by pushing up to the stop
- Screw the cap up to the anti-loosening safety notch using the locking wrench
