Aquatechnik’s Safety-Plus System Achieves Environmental Product Declaration (EPD)

Aquatechnik has successfully obtained the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) validation for two of our key products: the Multi-Calor MLCP (Multi-Layer Composite Pipe) and the Safety-Plus PPS (Polyphenylsulfone) fittings. This achievement aligns with the stringent international standards ISO 14025 and EN 15804:2012+A2:2019/AC:2021, highlighting our commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainable practices.

Understanding the EPD Certificate

An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is a comprehensive document that details the environmental impact of a building material throughout its entire lifecycle. This includes all stages, from production and construction to end-of-life processes, such as potential reuse, recovery, or recycling.

The data within an EPD is presented in a standardised format, ensuring consistency and making it easier to compare the environmental performance of different materials. This standardisation is crucial for stakeholders who need to evaluate how a product performs at various stages of its lifecycle.

Why EPDs Matter

The sustainability of a product is not solely determined by how it is produced. While a product might be manufactured using environmentally friendly processes, its overall sustainability also depends on its longevity and what happens to it at the end of its life. For instance, if a product has a short lifespan or is challenging to recycle or reuse, its environmental benefits are significantly reduced. This is why EPDs are essential—they provide detailed insights into multiple life stages of a product, allowing a more accurate assessment of its overall sustainability.

EPDs in Practice: A Tool for Contractors and Consultants

Contractors and consultants can leverage the information contained in EPDs for building-level assessments or when working within building evaluation schemes. The data provided in an EPD is invaluable for making informed decisions that contribute to the sustainability and environmental responsibility of construction projects.

At Aquatechnik, our pursuit of EPD validations for our products reflects our dedication to sustainability and transparency. By providing clear and reliable environmental impact data, we aim to support the construction industry in building a more sustainable future.
